Galapagos Islands travel: Galapagos tomato patch, poison apple tree, and flower of a nut. Galapagos Islands travel: Galapagos tomato patch, poison apple tree, and flower of a nut.
These tomatoes only grow on the Galapagos Islands. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure guide, said it took the foremost "tomato-ologist" a long time to figure out how to germinate the seeds. The tomatoes were delicious. We all took some seeds home with us, but without violating any of the strict import/export rules. As Sherlock Holmes would say, "It's alimentary, my dear Watson." (1:09)

Galapagos Islands travel: Giant tortoise charging at us. Galapagos Islands travel: Giant tortoise charging at us.
This guy was really motoring! The other Galapagos Island giant tortoise in this video emptied his lungs and hissed at us when retracting his head, but you would have to turn your speakers up painfully loud to hear it. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek guide, said this was a defense mechanism. (1:39)

This was a great walk through a lava tube. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure travel guide, said that cows used to disappear by falling into openings of the tube before it was known there was a tube. (3:40)

We took the panga to the restaurant. Yum! Nice views from the table, too. Here's some perspective on how nice Mountain Travel Sobek has this trip arranged: in the middle of the Galapagos Islands, the kids are able to make music with crystal glasses. (2:54)

Galapagos Islands travel: Lonesome George and Diego, the two most famous tortoises. Galapagos Islands travel: Lonesome George and Diego, the two most famous tortoises.
Lonesome George, the most famous Galapagos Island giant tortoise alive. Even a beautiful "tortoise-ologist" couldn't inspire him to mate. Diego, on the other hand, is quite prolific. Plus, a beautiful land iguana at Charles Darwin Research Center. (:51)

Galapagos Islands travel: Some perspective on these GIANT tortoises. Galapagos Islands travel: Some perspective on these GIANT tortoises.
These Galapagos Island giant tortoises are truly huge creatures. Sebastian tries to inspire "craning" (or was it "stilting"?) imitating a bird's motions. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure travel guide, got the tortoise to lift it's head. Also, a spider in it's web. (3:11)

Our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure travel group walks thru town. Maybe this particular Galapagos Island has become a bit commercialized, but there were surprisingly pretty shops and a functional fishing village. (1:40)
