Galapagos Islands travel: Landing: Sally Lightfoot crabs, iguanas and sea lions Galapagos Islands travel: Landing: Sally Lightfoot crabs, iguanas and sea lions
Lots of Sally lightfoot crabs on the rocks of the jetty. Sometimes the sea lions like to lay on the path on the jetty, and they have the right of way. This makes for a challenging passage for our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure group! (2:15)

Galapagos Islands travel: Why are these animals not afraid of us? Galapagos Islands travel: Why are these animals not afraid of us?
Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek guide to the Galapagos Islands, gives a very interesting dissertation on the adaptive significance of fear (or lack thereof!) using an interesting analogy to the internet and anti-virus software. (1:59)

Galapagos Islands travel: Red billed birds and other cool wildlife Galapagos Islands travel: Red billed birds and other cool wildlife
Can't remember the name of these Galapagos Islands red billed birds. Something inappropriate like 'crab cracker'; inappropriate because they don't eat crabs nor could their bills crack a crab. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek guide, did give the name while we were hiking. (2:26)

Galapagos Islands travel: Lava path, Galapagos Hawk and albatross landing strip. Galapagos Islands travel: Lava path, Galapagos Hawk and albatross landing strip.
This hawk is the top of the food chain on this Galapagos Island. During a different season, the albatross land on this volcanic path, and launch off the "serious cliffs" presented in the next video. (1:13)

Galapagos Islands travel: Serious cliffs Galapagos Islands travel: Serious cliffs
This is how a tremendously large wing span bird launches: they throw themselves off a cliff. We'll come back to the Galapagos Islands in another season with Mountain Travel Sobek, when the albatross are present. (1:58)

Starts with an auditory identification error. Love those blue feet! A Galapagos Island iguana against the "white cliffs" (guess why they're white...). (2:36)

Galapagos Islands travel: The Blue footed Booberie. Galapagos Islands travel: The Blue footed Booberie.
The path to the booberie. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek guide, assured us that this place is really properly called a booberie. You can hear lots of male whistles and female honks. Love those blue feet! (2:09)

Galapagos Islands travel: The Nazca Booberie. Galapagos Islands travel: The Nazca Booberie.
Right next door to the blue footed colony was the Nazca colony. Klaus, our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure guide, explained why the two colonies on the same Galapagos Island were not competing for the same limited resources. (1:26)

Galapagos Islands travel: Persistence. More most picturesque video. Galapagos Islands travel: Persistence. More most picturesque video.
On this Galapagos Island, we see the infamous 'dead iguana' holding on by a fingernail, the very definition of persistence. Our Mountain Travel Sobek adventure group continues to explore the most beautiful portion of this island. (1:36)

Galapagos Islands travel: Kathy's slideshow of Espanola (Hood) Island, Punta Suarez Galapagos Islands travel: Kathy's slideshow of Espanola (Hood) Island, Punta Suarez
Kathy's slideshow of Espanola (Hood) Island, Punta Suarez, hardly does justice to this portion of our second Galapagos Island. Mountain Travel Sobek has done a great job so far. (2:33)
